LEED Certification is the recognition that a building has met certain standards and codes for sustainable design and energy efficiency. LEED was created by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), a green building industry coalition founded in 1993 amid an increased cultural focus on environmental concerns. The goal was to create better buildings optimized with people and nature in mind. A LEED AP credential distinguishes those with advanced knowledge in green building, plus expertise in a particular LEED rating system. The LEED AP exams measure knowledge about green building, a specific LEED rating system, and the certification process. Individuals sitting for the exam must do proper prep, pass the exam, and then earn 30 continuing education hours within two years of passing their exam.
