I choose Interior Design because I loved watching my dad renovate our house when I was growing up.

I can be successful in this class by composing a weekly schedule for myself so that I stay on track with all the different assignments.

  Bamboo & Cotton Gina Christopher  Bamboo: When bamboo fabric is made, cuts need to be as clean as possible to allow new shoots to grow and naturally replenish. Stalks are cut into smaller Bamboo chips and then soaked in a globally organic textile standard-approved soaking liquid. A bamboo pulp is produced after soaking, and then the pulp is dried into sheets. Once dried, the sheets of pulp are ground and spun into bamboo fiber.   Cotton: The exact origin of the cotton plant is unknown. Cotton fiber was traditionally processed by hand until the early 18th century, when the first automated processing machine was invented. Before cotton arrives at the textile mill to be spun into thread and woven into fabric, it makes the journey from field to bale. Cotton takes about 5 months to grow from planting. Fiber Basics Gina Christopher Nylon Production: Nylon is a thermoplastic. Nylon is one of the most important synthetic polymers. About 4 million tons a year are produced worldwide. Most nylon is made into fibers for ropes, clothing, and for reinforcing tyres. Nylon is made from 2 monomers. Adipic acid or hexanedioic acid has a chain of six carbon atoms. Hexamethylene diamine, or diaminohexane, also has a chain of six carbon atoms. When the two monomers react together, a molecule of water is produced as each link is formed. These two monomers continue to link together to form long chains called nylon. The raw materials used to make the two monomers are cyclohexane and adiponitrile. These are both derived from crude oil. Cyclohexane is oxidized, first by air and then by nitric acid, to give adipic acid. Adiponitrile is hydrogenated to give hexamethylenediamine. The two monomers first react to form salt.
