#10 Construction & Fiber Content
Construction &
Fiber Content

Carpet Tile:
Carpet tiles are usually constructed in square pieces. These
pieces usually include a durable backing, primary backing, and a face fiber.
Backings are made from materials such as PVC or polyurethane to provide
stability. The face fibers are tufted or looped into a primary baking. Carpet
tiles are typically made from synthetic materials, such as nylon, polyester, or
polypropylene. Synthetic fibers are a suitable choice for carpet tiles due to
their durability, stain resistance, and affordability. Nylon is the most
popular choice for carpet tiles in commercial applications because it can
withstand the wear and tear of high-traffic areas.
Area Rugs:
Area rugs are usually constructed as single finished pieces,
unlike carpet tiles. Area rugs can be made using various techniques, including
hand-knotting, hand-tufting, flat-weaving, and machine weaving. Area rugs have
a pile, warp, and weft threads, and sometimes an added backing. Area rugs are
available in a variety of fibers, including natural fibers such as wool,
cotton, and silk, as well as synthetic fibers like nylon, jute, and polyester.
Wool is the most high-end area rug fiber due to its soft hand, stain
resistance, and durability. Handmade wool rugs are very expensive. Rugs made
from synthetic fibers are more affordable and easier to maintain. Area rugs are
used in both residential and commercial applications.
One Step Further (2026 Carpet Trends):
For my one step further research, I decided to see what the
carpet trends are for this year. I found that patterned and textured carpets
are in because they create a bold and luxurious atmosphere. Wall-to-wall
carpets in bedrooms are also making a comeback. People are missing the soft and
cozy feeling in bedrooms and moving away from wood floors and loving the
wall-to-wall carpet feeling. Carpets are also moving away from neutral colors,
and bold, vibrant colors are becoming more popular. We have seen this trend
take place in many interior spaces this year.

Hi Gina! I liked your blog a lot this week. You did a great job summarizing carpet tile and area rugs. I thought your one step further was also very interesting. I'm glad that carpet in bedrooms is making a comeback because I personally think it is much more comfortable than wood floors. I also like the fact that carpets are going away from simple neutral colors and having more patterns and bold colors. I researched what the best types of carpet are for bedrooms and attached some links below.
